How to use

1. Preparing the chawan
Fill one-third of the bowl with hot water.
Let it warm for 20–30 seconds.
Discard and gently dry.
This keeps the matcha at the proper temperature.

2. Hydrating the chasen (bamboo whisk)
Place the chasen in hot water inside the chawan for 30–60 seconds.
This softens the tines and prevents breakage.
Remove the water before adding matcha.

3. Sifting the matcha
Sift 1–2 g of matcha into the chawan.
Ensures a smooth, lump-free texture.

4. Creating the base
Add 20–30 ml of water at 70–80 °C.
Blend in gentle circular motions until a smooth paste forms.

5. Traditional whisking with the chasen
Add water depending on the style:
• 60–80 ml for koicha
• 100–120 ml for usucha
Hold the chawan firmly.
Whisk quickly in a “M” or “W” pattern, wrist relaxed.
Let the tips of the chasen lightly brush the bottom.
Whisk for 15–25 seconds until a fine, creamy foam appears.
Finish with a slow circular motion to smooth the surface.

6. Using the ceramic chasen stand
Rinse the chasen with warm water (no soap).
Shake off excess water.
Place it on the ceramic stand with the tines facing downward.
This preserves its shape, prevents deformation and allows proper drying.

7. Enjoying the matcha
