What benefits does it have compared to coffee?

One of the big differences between Matcha Tea and coffee is the large amount of antioxidants that each serving of Matcha contains. Specifically, each dose contains 1,384 ORAC, a unit used to measure the capacity to absorb oxygen radicals. In this way, Matcha Tea has an antioxidant effect 53 times greater than that of spinach.

A serving of Matcha Tea contains approximately 35 mg of caffeine, the same as an espresso. When drinking coffee, you will most likely notice the energy rush that caffeine generates and, after about two hours, a sudden crash. Matcha, in addition to containing caffeine, also includes L-Theanine, an amino acid that causes the release of caffeine to be progressive, thus creating a state of calm-alert without ups and downs of energy.

How many calories does one serving (1 gram) have?

Matcha Tea is a healthy alternative to sugary and caloric drinks: a serving contains only 3 calories (Kcal), a very low caloric contribution to our daily diet.

The World Health Organization (WHO) establishes a caloric intake for a healthy adult person of 2,000 to 2,500 Kcal/day for men and 1,500 to 2,000 Kcal/day for women. According to recent studies, the intake of Matcha Tea can multiply the loss of calories by four. Green tea also contains negative calories, that is, our body's absorption process and the energy it needs to process it is greater than the number of calories we ingest when consuming the food.

How much sugar is in a serving (1 gram)?

0 grams of sugar! Matcha Green Tea does not contain sugar and is 100% natural. Therefore, it is advisable to incorporate into our diet its consumption in substitution of sugary drinks.

If you want to sweeten your Matcha, just add a few grains of brown sugar or any other sweetener.

Do not forget that Matcha Green Tea helps control blood sugar levels and prevent the development of type 2 diabetes.

An adult's caffeine intake should not exceed 400 mg per day. A 1 gram cup of Matcha Tea contains 35 mg of caffeine, so we recommend not drinking more than 5 cups of Matcha per day.

It contains gluten?

Matcha Green Tea is a gluten-free food suitable for coeliacs. So you can take Matcha as a drink or as an ingredient for your recipes.

Can I take it if I am lactose intolerant?

Of course. Traditionally Matcha Tea is consumed in the tea ceremony in Japan and is mixed with hot water at a temperature of 80ºC.

By bringing it to the West we have incorporated it into our customs. Hence, it is very common to consume it with different types of milk (oat, soy, almond or coconut).

Is it suitable for vegans and vegetarians?

Yeah. Both Matcha Green Tea and Matcha Latte are suitable for vegans and vegetarians. In fact, there are countless combinations when it comes to taking Matcha as a drink and also as an ingredient for your recipes.

Does it help to lose weight?

Yes, it has been shown that EGCG catechin speeds up metabolism and stops the growth of fat in cells, especially if consumed before doing sports.

Likewise, it is advisable to replace coffee with Matcha Tea, since the latter does not alter blood sugar and insulin levels, producing a regulatory effect on appetite and avoiding compulsive eating.

What Matcha Tea do you recommend to start?

Is it normal that at first I don't like it?

One of the characteristics of Matcha Tea is its slightly sweet taste. However, the first times we try Matcha, our palate is not able to properly capture it. The secret to appreciating the "umami" flavor, savory in Japanese, is repetition, according to various experts. Thus, to develop a new taste, it is sometimes necessary to try it up to 12 times.

The same thing happens the first time we try other drinks such as beer, coffee or wine. Matcha tea has an umami flavor, very different and new for our palate that we have to learn to appreciate until it is delicious.

What is the difference between organic and non-organic Matcha?

Organic, ecological or bio food is a product that comes from sustainable agriculture that is respectful of the environment and human health. A food can only be labeled as bio if at least 95% of its ingredients are organic.

What is the difference between green tea and Matcha?

Green tea is a type of tea from the Camellia sinensis plant that does not undergo oxidation during processing and whose leaves are collected fresh and then dried, pressed, rolled and crushed.

Instead, Matcha Tea is a type of green tea although its production process is different. 20 days before harvesting, the green tea plantation is covered in order to increase the concentration of chlorophyll, which gives Matcha its characteristic and vibrant green color.

The best leaves selected and collected by hand go through a long process of natural drying, they are subjected to a steam bath to discard the stems and nerves and, thus, grind with stone only the tender part of the leaf.

While green tea is brewed in hot water, Matcha powders are added to hot water, so you consume 100% of the green tea leaf. For this reason, Matcha Tea contains 137 times more antioxidants than conventional green tea.

How much Matcha Tea can I drink a day?

Drinking between two and three cups of Matcha a day will make sure you take advantage of all its benefits. In order not to exceed the recommended daily caffeine intake for adults, it is advisable not to take more than 5 grams of Matcha per day, which is equivalent to about five cups of Matcha Tea.

What is the best time to take it?

Most people choose to replace their cup of coffee in the morning with a cup of Matcha Tea.

Due to its L-Theanine content, the caffeine release is progressive and the energy it provides is constant, its effect lasting between 4 and 6 hours. This energy can help keep you awake and alert without making you nervous.

If your goal is to lose weight, consuming Matcha before exercising increases our body's ability to burn calories by up to 43% and, therefore, can help activate metabolism and lose weight.

Can it affect sleep?

Those who consume Matcha regularly tend to sleep better due to the calming effects of L-Theanine. In general, Matcha consumers tend to improve sleep quality due to reduced levels of stress and anxiety, contributing to waking up more refreshed.

For those people who are more sensitive to caffeine, we recommend not drinking Matcha Tea after 16 hours, as well as limiting the consumption of coffee, tea and other beverages that contain caffeine.

Can it be taken during pregnancy?

According to doctors, a pregnant woman should not consume more than 300 mg of caffeine per day.

We recommend limiting the consumption of Matcha Tea to two cups a day to stay within normal levels of daily caffeine.

Can children take it?

Yes, drinking Matcha Tea can be an alternative drink for children with zero sugar. Matcha can help prevent colds, have a healthy heart as it strengthens the walls of the arteries, improve oral health and concentration, and combat childhood obesity.

However, we recommend limiting your consumption to one cup a day due to the caffeine levels that Matcha contains. And it is that, thanks to L-Theanine, its caffeine is released progressively over 4 or 6 hours, and not all at once as when consuming a cup of coffee.

How much Matcha should I add per serving?

A serving is usually equivalent to 1 gram of Matcha, that is, a teaspoon of coffee. To start with, we recommend using slightly less amounts and seeing how you feel. Little by little you can try the optimal amount of Matcha for you.

How is it taken: hot or cold?

You can take the Matcha as you like, both hot and cold. The benefits of taking Matcha are not altered by the temperature at which it is consumed. We recommend that you try to make the Matcha with hot water or milk and then pour it into a glass with ice to drink it cold. You can also use it as an ingredient to prepare delicious Matcha recipes.
