Our First Day in China: Cultural Immersion
Upon arriving in China, a wave of sensations washed over us. We immediately found ourselves immersed in a cultural mosaic filled with colors, sounds, and smells that represent centuries of history and traditions.
The hustle and bustle of the cities, with their skyscrapers touching the sky and winding streets, showcased a fascinating contrast between rapid modernity and the traditions that remain alive. Public squares were filled with groups practicing tai chi at dawn, while markets offered an overwhelming variety of products, from antiques to cutting-edge technology.
But what captivated us the most was the aroma. The unmistakable scent of street food, where the steam from freshly made dumplings mingled with the spiciness of mapo tofu and the sweet bites of glutinous rice. And, of course, the aroma of tea. In every corner, you could find a shop or a stall offering tastings of local teas, reminding us of China’s deep connection to this ancient beverage.
As we walked, the constant flow of people around us showed a country in motion, yet always with one foot firmly planted in its rich history. It was evident that China was not just a place, but a living experience, and we were right in the heart of it.
Visits to Suppliers
Being in the middle of a tea plantation is a unique experience. You find yourself surrounded by green fields everywhere, and the fresh aroma of the plants is unmistakable. It’s interesting to see how traditional farming techniques blend with modern methods, with farmers carefully picking the leaves while, just a few meters away, machines process the tea on a large scale.
We had the opportunity to try several teas that were completely new to me. Bai Mudan has a smooth and floral flavor, while Da Hong Pao is stronger with a smoky touch. And we can't forget Jasmine Pearl, which has that characteristic jasmine aroma. Each of these teas showed me something different about what China has to offer.
What became clear from this visit is the effort and dedication required to produce every cup of tea. There is a lot of work and tradition in every step of the process, and it’s wonderful to appreciate it firsthand.
